Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has gave an explanation for his agreement to a peace accord with his predecessor and ‘sworn enemy’, Rotimi Amaechi in the interest of the Rivers people. The governor gave his word to uphold the peace accord brokered by the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Director-General of Department of State Services (DSS), Alh. Musa Daura.

His spokesman, Simeon Nwakaudu, quoted him as saying, “I was at the peace meeting because we love peace and want the state to move forward”

“I signed an undertaking on your behalf that we are prepared for INEC credible, free and fair elections. It is not in our position to have crisis because we are the ones losing.”

He also stated that the people need to be given freedom to elect into office representatives of their choice at the national and state assemblies.

“Nigerians know, the world knows that Rivers state is PDP. So shall it be forever,” the Rivers state governor said, as he charged PDP members to be vigilant ahead of the rerun election.
