Save Your Sole! How to Care for Footwears During Rainy Season

The beginning of the rainy season does not only bring disaster to your feet, but also to your footwear. All kinds of shoes require special care during the season. Footwears develop different kind of problems during this season due to exposure to mud ad retention of moisture in the shoe for long periods.

Many of you would have wondered how to prevent your favorite footwears from spoiling, well say no more! Here are some methods of protecting your sole…

Dry your Wet Shoes -During rainy season, the humidity in the weather makes your feet sweat more leaving the shoes smelly and stinky. This leads to fungus growth and stench in shoes and as a result, your feet may develop skin problems. Soiled or wet shoes should be wiped with a clean moist cloth. If you wear sports shoes in the rains, dry them by loosening the laces and spreading them out when the sun shines.

In the case of leather shoes, Water can destroy the flexibility of your shoe’s leather. Once it permeates the leather itself, it will weaken the top layers and damage the finish of your shoe,

It is highly recommended that you avoid leather footwear completely during this season, if absolutely necessary, clean and waterproof your leather shoes with a deep pore wax leather polish before putting them on. Wax based polishes create a thin protective layer that provides light resistance to water and salt.

-Don’t allow wet dirt and mud  dry or harden on any kind of shoes. Wipe it off immediately.
– Do not keep footwear in closed cabinets without completely drying them. Do not keep leather footwears in a heated environment to avoid peeling.
– Don’t throw away old, spare shoes that are still wearable. Get them treated before the rains begin as they will get you through these few months.
– Get a thorough cleaning done once every few months or when the shoes have become filthy.
– Always wear clean socks.
– Try sticking to rubber footwear and avoid wearing expensive shoes.
