Chocolate City started officially with 3 rappers; M.I, Jesse Jagz and IcePrince. Along the way, artistes like Brymo (which later left the label), Pryse, Victoria Kimani, Nosa and Dice Ailes were signed officially to the label alongside Dj Caise.

Chocolate City used to be the biggest label in Africa with hit songs from the artistes on the label. Over the past few years, a lot of things have changed in the Choc City camp. 2 top artistes (Jesse Jagz and Brymo) left the label; Jesse Jagz released 2 projects which have been tagged by hip-hop heads as ‘2 of the greatest albums in the history of 9ja rap’. Brymo on the other side also has recorded 2 albums after leaving Chocolate City. ITunes figures suggests, the 2 artistes are doing well when it comes to album sales.

Over the years, M.I Abaga who serves as the vice-president of Chocolate City also has his personal record label which he has been running for a long time called ‘Loopy Music’. They rebranded 2years ago and introduced acts like: Loose Kaynon, Ruby Gyang, Dj Lambo and Threadstone.

He further introduced the likes of Moti Cakes (featured on BAD BELLE), Koker (featured on RICH) and Milli (featured on YOURS & BROTHER) on his ‘Chairman Album’.

Loopy Music was serving as an affiliate to Chocolate City Music up until now. Both Choc City and Loopy Music have merged to form CBN (Choc Boiz Nation) which boasts of 13 artistes.

The 13 artistes came up with a 15-track album titled The Indestructible Choc Boi Nation Albumwith productions from G-Plus, Rheinard, L37, BeatFactz, Tunday, CKay, TechZilla, Nosa and Jesse Jagz who officially returned to Chocolate City a week before the official announcement of the album.

Join me as I walk you through the album…..

The first track on the album SUMMER TIME, which is also the first official single features Jesse Jagz, M.I, IcePrince and Loose Kaynon. This is a decent track. The beat was well laced and the rappers all delivered. Track produced by Jesse Jagz and Reinhard. The almost 5-minutes track was followed by ‘DO SOMETHING’ delivered by the talented KOKER. This tune is a hit! For once, I thought I was listening to Sir Shina Peters. DO SOMETHING is one of the highlights of the album, it has a Fuji groove. I’m sure this song won’t only rock the clubs but also Owambe parties. It has a background sound of NOSA and it was produced by Reinhard, L37 and TMXO. I rate this track 10 of 10!

After KOKER raised the bar on track 2, the third track is DRANK, it has DJ Lambo, Milli and Dice Ailes. This is a decent new school hip-hop tune! Milli and Dice did what they know how to do best on a Rheinard beat. Dj Lambo’s effort on the track also couldn’t go unnoticed; she was in some Dj Khaleed mode! They all went hard on this joint. I rate 8 of 10. Yeah, it’s another Reinhard production.

ICEPRINCE and KOKER made a return on the track 4 titled BASS produced by Reinhard. IcePrince should have done more rap and let Koker handle the singing part. The track isn’t bad but failed to ‘out’ the previous tracks on the album. This is a 6/10 project.

OH NO NO is the track 5 on the album and it was delivered by the angry talented DICE AILES. This track would make anybody’s top 3 tracks on this album! Dice Ailes has released few songs in the past, but I had no idea he was this good!!! This is a 10/10 work bruh!  The boys at CBN don’t play! OH NO NO is a Tunday production.

LOOSE KAYNON, ICEPRINCE and MILLI went hard in ‘GO HARD’. The track 6 is a classic hip-hop tune. Loose was all over this particular record, he went as far as saying he’s the ‘Man of the Year’. ICEPRINCE was above average on this track. A bridge from MILLI and also a closing part from him made the Reinhard produced record almost perfect! It’s an 8/10 work.

It’s been a while since we heard something new from Chocolate City first lady. RICOCHET shows how massive PRYSE has improved although some of her bars are weak and hip-hop heads won’t spare her. She was like “I’m going in like they make me in, I’m gon win like they let me win”…like seriously? That is a wack line! Overall, the song is great, the beat by Tech Zilla is amazing, the flows were on point, and Delivery was decent. It’s another 8/10 project.

ICEPRINCE came back again on track 8 with diva VICTORIA KIMANI. LOVING YOU has a little reggae/dancehall feel and it’s one of the best songs on the album. Both artistes delivered on the well-L37-crafted beat. I hope a video is in works already. I rate 9/10!

When VICTORIA KIMANI and ICEPRINCE were busy loving eachother in LOVING YOU, NOSA was busy being called by love. One thing about NOSA is; he always delivers! He delivered again in ‘LOVE IS CALLING’, a beautiful song that everyone would definitely relate to instantly. This is a 9/10 piece of work. It’s just a perfect track for all. The Love Doctor has done it again! Nosa also produced this track.

YES….another love song. LOOSE SOUL has the soulful diva RUBY deliver a beautiful number. We all know what Ruby is capable of, we’ve seen her previous works and she didn’t fail at all on this track. The song also featured DJ CAISE. RUBY didn’t just stop there; she also took us through another love song produced by RHEINARD and it featured JESSE JAGZ. Ruby made her frustrations known on this track about a relationship she’s tired of and she’s giving the man NO MORE chance. Jesse Jagz delivered a below average rap verse. The song wouldn’t have been worse if he wasn’t on it. NO MORE is a great tune as it would connect with many females across and probably make men have a second thought on treating their ladies badly. I rate both songs 8/10 each. Reinhard assisted by Dj Caise and Jesse Jagz produced both songs.

When MILLI and KOKER come together, a heart is always felt. Track 12 sees both artistes deliver ‘HEART FELT’ on a dope beat by Reinhard and a catchy hook by KOKER. KOKER and MILLI once again proved they are both ready to take over individually. Heart Felt should do well in clubs. 8.5/10 for this track.

3RD MAINLAND BRIDGE….If you love Bad Belle by M.I and Moti Cakes which featured on M.I’s ‘The Chairman’ album, this jam would be one your favorite songs on the album. M.I delivered another classic hip-hop tune alongside MILLI. This is an instant hit! MILLI has delivered on all the tracks he graced on this project…he’s that good! M.I on his part didn’t fail, although his bars were weak…I mean very weak! It’s a nice tune overall. Produced by CKay. Rating:  7/10.

SUITE 99 is the second official single off the album; it features ICEPRINCE and JESSE JAGZ. SUITE 99 has been getting lots of airplays on radio stations since its release. ICE delivered a beautiful hook and both artistes went hard on this one. One of the best tracks on the album. Produced by Jesse Jagz and L37.

JESSE JAGZ called on Moti Cakes and MILLI on the closing track of the album. Jesse went personal and narrated all what happened; why he left the label, what he’s been doing after he left and why he’s back. For all those who are still wondering what really happened between both parties, I suggest you listen to this track closely. Produced by Jesse Jagz himself.

Well, CBN managed to deliver a classic project. I want you all to watch out for all these guys on this album because they all have something to offer and very soon, CBN would take over…again!

Your opinions, corrections and criticisms are welcome.

Another Mayoviral piece.
